South Bay Christian School provides a comprehensive curriculum for students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The curriculum for grades K-4 and 5-8 is accredited by the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges).
The school offers a developmentally appropriate learning environment where all students can learn and succeed. Math and reading instruction is differentiated, with math taught at the same time for all grades. Students can move up or down a grade level based on teacher assessment and their abilities. The reading program used is Accelerated Reader, which is a self-paced reading system where students gain confidence in their reading abilities by completing comprehension tests online and advancing to higher levels.
The school offers instruction in math, phonics, reading, language arts, history, science, P.E., bible, and daily worship with chapel on Fridays. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade take the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test twice a year, which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote academic growth.
South Bay Christian School provides STEAM education, including science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Students participate in science learning throughout the week, and every other year, the school hosts a science fair featuring student projects. The school has a sustainable garden that uses multiple sources of irrigation systems to teach water conservation, grow vegetables used in the healthy hot lunch program, and teach science in a food laboratory on campus. The upper grades attend overnight camps dedicated to various subjects in science, including nature camp, astro-camp, and science camp.
The school offers Chromebooks to each student as a technological learning tool, and after-school enrichment programs in robotics and music. Students receive a full program of music and drama through song, skits, talent shows, and music productions. Students can also participate in after-school enrichment programs to learn to play musical instruments such as piano and drums.
The school uses the GO Math! curriculum, which incorporates the latest thinking in its comprehensive approach and engages digital natives with cross-platform technology. Students have P.E. four days a week as part of the standard curriculum, and upper-grade students can participate in an after-school competitive sports program in ping pong, basketball, and volleyball for an additional fee. Finally, the school teaches Spanish to upper-grade students.
